"Cashbreaker" competition in Take a Puzzle

I am fairly new to this magazine and enjoy it a lot, especially the code breaker, Sudoku and the Letterbox puzzles (I really like letterbox, more please!). But I find the prize codebreaker really infuriating, because sometimes the given letters rule out a lot of the possible prize words.
For example, in this issue (#4, April 2010, p17) the given letters are S, I and R, with corresponding numbers 8, 17 and 4. None of these numbers are in the prize word, hence none of these 3 letters can be included in the prize word. There are 22 possible words - I counted 19 of them had S, I or R! So that narrows the search down to 3 potential prize words before you even start! Of course solving the puzzle is still fun, but surely it must be possible to choose potential prize words which don't contain the given letters?

I've passed your message on to the editor of Take A Puzzle, who responded with the following:

"We have looked into the matter and have decided to make a few changes to the puzzle based on your comments, so you should find a new-and-improved cashbreaker in issue 8!

Thanks for writing in – we appreciate all feedback from our readers, and it’s nice to hear you are enjoying the magazine. In issue 8, we will be featuring a few more logic-based puzzles that you might enjoy if you like Letterbox, so keep an eye out!"
