The simpler puzzles are there because it is a relatively new puzzle - to get readers that are completely new to hitoshii into the swing of things. But I've passed your comments on to the editor and I'm sure they'll keep it in mind for future issues.
In the mean time, have you seen the pair of 9x9s near the bottom of the front page? Hopefully they'll pose a bit of a challenge for you if you haven't already done them...
